Beach & Nelson Business, Oakleigh, Melbourne

Unfortunately the building business only operated for a period of less than 1 year as the impacts of the economic recession started to fully impact the prosperity of Melbourne. It would appear that Harry (Milson) Beach moved quickly after the finalisation of the bankruptcy of his Beach & Nelson business in Melbourne to explore opportunities in Tasmania. He was listed as travelling by ship between Melbourne and Launceston on the 28th March 1890 just some two weeks after the payment date for the final dividend of the Trust Estate. The 3 homes in Bowen Street referred to above, appear to have been in the name of Milson's wife Lucy Beach, so they were likely excluded from the bankruptcy process and provided the financial means by which the family were able to establish themselves in Tasmania.
